MX200 Vs MX400

Got a question regarding graphics cards.

I am looking at a Geforce 2 but I don't know the difference between speed and memory for a card.

What actual difference will i see if using a 64MB as apposed to a 32Mb both at MX200.

Also what is MX400 (faster I assume). I want a good card for games and for a good price. What is the best solution?

if i were you...i wouldnt get either of these cards...save up and get a GeForce GTS pro.

The diff in mx200 and mx400 is core speed. The mx200 has about 175 were as the mx400 has 200. I have the mx400, and its ok (better then most of the mx200's) - by most - i mean the asus version (there are possibly leadtech or other brands which are better than the asus or nvidia mx400)

anyway, the bottom line is...get a GeForce 3 GTS Pro...but if ur looking in the AU$150-200 range, and u want a geforce, then get the mx400.

Kyro is also a good v/card to look at.

Get the mx400. I am getting the Nvidia GF2 mx400 64MB AGP w/ TV Out. This card is good enough for games and whatever else you want to do with it, and is cheap too. Most people would suggest not to get an mx200.

Radeon LE, Kyro, KyroII may be other, better, options to look into. Radeon LE DDR goes for $70 and the Kyro II from Inno3d goes for $68.

Core doesn't matter.

The main difference between the MX200 and the MX400 is memory bandwidth. The MX200 has a 64 bit memory path, whereas the MX400 has a 128 bit memory path. (both SDR)

If you go and work that out, the MX200 has a memory transfer rate of 1.3 GB/s and the MX400 has one of roughly 2.7 GB/s.

The difference between a 64MB card and a 32MB card are neligable at the resolutions in which value cards usually work best. Only when you get to 1600x1200x32 or so will there be a 5-10 FPS difference in speed. This also depends on the game, of course.

However, I agree, there are better video card choices around. The Kyro 2, Radeon LE, Geforce 2 Pro are all good value choices.
