At 75.6m long, 5.74m wide, 5.55m high and weighing in at 203 tons, it was vast, even by our standards. It needed to be moved on two separate bogies that were connected to each other only by the column itself. Each bogie had ten axles, and each axle had eight wheels to help displace the weight evenly. The wheels on the rear bogie could be directed by a steersman to aid it around tight corners and to help line it up with the front. In addition, thanks to a couple of one-in-12 gradients, we needed to have a second tractor unit for extra traction. With 203 tons you can't get a run up to a hill like you can in your car.
