Hi guys,
I need to get a FireWire card to connect a camcorder that I am planning to buy. Is IEEE1394 and iLink the same thing and latter being Sony's creation? Also, which one would you recommend?
thanks,

Here's how I see it:
Apple=Firewire
PC=IEEE1394
Sony=iLink
as far as I know, there is no difference between them except the names.
There are several cheap Firewire cards out there~US$30-40. I don't use any of them (onboard), so I really can't recommend any one over the others.
Here is one on tigerdirect.com for $25. I have done business with tiger ~10 times and have never had any problems with them.
thanks a lot :D
I was running short of PCI slots (read: used every fricken one of 'em but needed to cram a firewire port in there somewhere) and got a slick little combo card- IEEE1394, USB2 *and* 10/100BaseT LAN all in a single card! :) Set me back like $80 tho. works like a charm!
