recovering scores

I just recently reinstalled Windows 2000 and lost my 3D Pinball scores. I was wondering if there was a way to recover the scores for the next time I have to reinstall Windows 2000. Is there a way?

You should be able to back up this directory:

C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Pinball


I know if you use a hex editor you get change the high scores for the game. I guess that depends on how desperately you want them back though ;)

I thought that was the directory to backup, but I wasn't for sure.

I already had backed up that directory before I posted my question at HWC. I'll keep that directory and see if it works when the next time I have to reinstall the Windows.

Actually it seems I'm wrong. The high scores are in the registery. Run REGEDIT and take a look here:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Plus! > Pinball > SpaceCadet


It'll list the name (x.Name), followed by the score (x.Score). Hmm... this is a little worrying, it's very easy to adjust the scores :eek:

Maybe then you can't do it. If it keeps it in the registery then copying the C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Pinball directory will not work. In addition, I was reading at Microsoft that you can't delete the Pinball folder, but it didn't say that you couldn't overwrite the existing files or folder either.

I think I still might give it a try though.
