I recently attached my Alpha socket cooler to the CPU (k6-III) The stock clip that attaches it to the CPU is not tight enough..and as a result it makes a VERY annoying vibrating sound while running.
I can also slide the heatsink around on the CPU. If I hold it tight against the CPU the vibrating stops. I tried bending the clip back just a tad.. but I didnt wanna overdo it and end up distorting its shape. Anybody else have this problem?
Thanks!

You have to put the little 1/4 " spacers between the shroud and the heatsink, it will allow the spring to have more tension.

The spacers just put more space between the shroud and heatsink and let you use the longer screw. You can try turning the spring over to see if it is tighter that way or bend it slightly to make it tighter. The spacers have nothing to do with how the assembly mounts to the zif socket.

If you dont install the spacers properly, the shroud will press down on the spring, letting up on the tension. Go to the BBS at www.lostcircuits.com and see the post regarding this from baldy.
