Cisco Enterprise Tablet Emphasizes Video Conferencing

January 11, 2011
By James Alan Miller

Verizon and Cisco are partnering to deliver the latter's new Cius Enterprise tablet PC on the former's 4G LTE network.

First announced in June, the Cius Enterprise tablet PC is an Android-run device that places an emphasis on Cisco's expertise in corporate video conferencing and collaboration. Compatible with Cisco's VPN, for security and WebEx for online meetings, the tablet sports a 7-inch touchscreen and a front-facing camera that can capture video in real-time at 720p. It comes in at a rather light 1.15 pounds.

Verizon's LTE network, now available in 37 markets, is compatible with Cisco’s ISR (Integrated Services Router) for when wired broadband Internet connections are not available. Where LTE is not possible, the Cius will drop down to 3G or, if you are near a hotspot, Wi-Fi connectivity.

There’s no word yet on how much the Cius will cost or what Verizon plans to charge for data. Cisco aims to ship the tablet PC in March. See here to learn more a bout the Cius.
