Sony Joining the Tablet PC Fray?
December 23, 2010
Every company in the computer and electronics market has either released or is about to release a tablet computer. Not Sony, however; at least not yet. Like everyone else, Sony's seen Apple's astounding iPad numbers. So It would be silly, if not irresponsible of them not to take a stab at the slate form factor.
That's why it shouldn't come as a surprise that a current listing on the FCC Web site indicates that one of the progenitors of the mobile electronics industry may be working on a VAIO tablet PC; or, perhaps, it is simply just another in its line notebook PCs.
While not very specific, the FCC filing from the Sony Business Group describes three models (PCG-31211L, PCG-31311L and PCG-312XXL) with Wi-Fi running on the AR5B95 chipset. The diagram included with the listing shows the bottom of the computer.
Perhaps we'll learn more about this mysterious device, tablet or laptop, at CES next month. See here and here to learn more and see the diagram.
