Toshiba says its newest portables are designed to provide new alternatives to everyday computing, thanks to the benefits of touch.
The Portege M780 (starting at $1,279) is a 12.1-inch Tablet PC convertible with digital inking and document markup capabilities. It offers a choice of Intel Core i3, i5, and i7 processors, Windows 7 Professional, and EasyGuard technology with a hard drive impact sensor, LCD display protection, and spill-resistant keyboard.
The Satellite Pro U500 is a 13.3-inch notebook with a multitouch display. It features a built-in webcam with face recognition login and touch-enabled Bulletin Board and ReelTime software to organize notes, to-do lists, and documents. A $949 model features an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, 3GB of memory, and a 250GB hard drive; a $1,099 configuration steps up to Core i3 power, 4GB of memory, a 320GB hard disk, and a slot-loading DVD±RW drive.
