New Brother All-in-Ones Include Widescreen LCD Models

Easy Image Editing and Fax Previews

October 18, 2007

Brother International Corp. has added three color inkjets to its line of low-profile multifunction peripherals. The printer/copier/fax/scanners offer print speeds up to 30 ppm for black and 25 ppm for color; copy speeds up to 22 and 20 ppm, respectively; both a 100-sheet front-load paper tray and a 20-sheet bypass tray for printing 4 by 6-inch photos; a 10-page automatic document feeder for multipage fax and copying jobs; and USB 2.0 and Ethernet interfaces plus a PictBridge port for printing directly from digital cameras. A four-color ink system helps lower consumable costs.

The MFC-465CN ($150) has a 2.0-inch flip-up color LCD for navigating menus and enhancing photos. The MFC-685CW ($200) steps up to a 3.3-inch widescreen LCD that offers functions such as fax previewing to eliminate needless printing of junk faxes and side-by-side "before and after" views of photo editing effects. It also adds 802.11b/g wireless networking and a corded telephone headset with digital answering machine and full-duplex speakerphone capabilities.

For $250, the Brother MFC-885CW has all the features of the 685CW plus a larger 4.2-inch widescreen display and a 5.8GHz cordless digital phone handset, expandable to a total of four handsets. The all-in-one trio will ship later this month.
